Alyssa Ruiz

All About Me

My name is Alyssa Kailani Ruiz and I am a 13-year-old girl. I have three crazy little sisters;  Kayla, Amaris, and Ilianna. I am very close to my family and friends who I love to spend time with. I have many interests or hobbies I keep myself busy with like sports, music, photography, and dance. I have enjoyed being in dance since I was about three years old. Isabella Guillen, who many think is my twin and I have been on every sports team since we have been at Mendez. We plan to continue joining a sport every season as we finish our time here. We find it to be challenging but, exciting. Swimming and going to the beach are some of my favorite things to do in the summer which is one of my favorite seasons along with winter. I think I am an optimistic, energetic person who likes to work hard since I know it will be rewarding. I'm always trying to improve myself as an athlete, dancer, friend, daughter, student and overall person.

Thank you Mendez

My experience at Mendez Fundamental has provided me with three memorable years and prepared me for my future. I was able to explore and learn numerous things and not just academically. Although Mendez always explained that academics came first, they motivated us to get involved in extra-circular activities. They have allowed me to be well-rounded by being in honors classes,  advanced orchestra, and compete in sports all year round. The teachers challenge us and instill the growth mindset in us; that all abilities or talents can be developed through hard work and dedication. My coaches have  us work hard and encourage good sportsman ship as they have guided us to being champions almost every single season. The counselors supported me and the other students in the ABC program through the difficult application process to have a chance to go to a high school that without this program we would never be able to attend. This upcoming school year I will be attending one of the ABC schools, Thacher School and I am not fazed because of the strong foundation Mendez  has provided me with. Mendez has connected with me with people who's friendship  I hope last a lifetime. This year I got to travel to Washington D.C. and New York where I got to learn and form closer bonds with my friends. I have had  amazing friends by my side as we grew as students, athletes and overall better people. Before going to Mendez my cousins would always tell me how their middle school experience was the best because of Mendez and now I can say I completely agree.
